Workshop Schedule
February 13-17, 2022

February 12 – Evening of Arrival: (time to be announced)

  • Share a complimentary margarita and delicious Mexican botanas (hors d’oeuvres) in Casa de la Noche’s gorgeous courtyard. For those of you arriving late, a “plate” will be prepared for you to take to your room upon arrival.

Day 1: February 13, 9-2

  • Our studio time on the first day will be slightly longer so that we can get a good start on our books, so eat a nice big breakfast!

  • We will begin with a short opening circle and from there you will learn how to create gesso transfers on metal. We will move on to preparing our book pages with stenciling, collage, paint and ink. By the end of the session we will have our book pages finished and ready to sew.

  • Opening day lunch will be at Casa de la Noche. We will learn all about San Miguel de Allende and discuss where to shop, eat an explore!

  • After lunch we will explore a local artisan’s market for goodies to include in our books.

Day 2: February 14, 9-3

  • On day 2 we will tear, sort and assemble our pages and we will have our book sewn by lunch. We will also be revealing our transfers and using patina to create a look similar to old tin types.

  • After our lunch at Casa de la Noche we will have the afternoon free to explorie the Fabrica la Aurora (an old textile mill full of art galleries) or Colonia Guadalupe, a local neighborhood with wonderful murals!

Day 3: February 15

  • Studio time will be from 9-12 this morning, leaving the afternoon to further explore San Miguel de Allende, or perhaps we will visit the neighboring city of Guanajuato (extra charge). Jan will take a poll before the workshop to determine interest.

Day 4: February 16, 9-3

  • Today Leighanna will show you how to cold connect metal transfers to your book. We will be working on our covers and adding metal to the inside of your books.​

  • After lunch, we will have the option to visit the botanic gardens El Charco de Ingenio.

Day 5, February 17, 9-2

  • Our last day will be spent finishing up our book, adding sari ribbon and final details.

  • We will have a show and tell and a short closing ceremony.

  • We will meet again at 5 PM where there will be a no-host bar to share take-aways and to say our farewells. Celebration dinner at restaurant to be announced.

The workshop areas will be open during non-class hours.
